Antituberculosis drug with a bactericidal effect. It is a isonicotinic acid hydrazide derivative. It demonstrates a highly selective activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It causes disruption of the bacterial cell wall, inhibits metabolism, oxidative processes and nucleic acid synthesis, showing both extracellular and intracellular activity. It is tolerated better than isoniazid and is most effective in early acute infections.
