powder for solution for injectionBroad spectrum semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic. It has a bactericidal effect. Amikacin is actively transported through the bacterial cell wall and irreversibly binds to 30S ribosomal subunit thereby inhibiting protein synthesis in the causative pathogen.
It is active against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., Providencia stuartii.
It is also active against some Gram-positive organisms: Staphylococcus spp. (including strains resistant to penicillin, methicillin, and some cephalosporins) and some Streptococcus spp. strains.
It is not active against anaerobic bacteria.
