CapsulesAntituberculosis antibiotic. It has a bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect depending on the concentration in the nidus of infection and microorganism susceptibility. It is an analogue of D-alanine amino acid. It competitively inhibits activity of alanine racemase converting L-alanine into D-alanine and D-alanine syntase which incorporates D-alanine into the pentapeptide necessary for peptidoglycan formation and bacterial cell wall synthesis.
It is active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium.
