TabletsAntiviral drug, HIV-1 protease inhibitor. Darunavir, the active ingredient, inhibits dimerization and catalytic activity of HIV-1 protease. It selectively inhibits cleavage of the HIV Gag-Pol polyproteins in infected cells, thereby preventing formation of mature viral particles. Darunavir has a high barrier to mutations inducing drug-resistance to protease inhibitors. It does not inhibit any of 13 tested human cellular proteases.
