Solution for injectionAntineoplastic drug, cytostatic of the antimetabolite class, folic acid analogue.
It inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, an enzyme reducing dihydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid (a carrier molecule for carbon moieties required for the synthesis of nucleotides and their derivatives).
It inhibits synthesis and reparation of DNA and prevents cell division (in the S-phase). Tissues with high rates of cell proliferation such as tumor tissues, bone marrow, mucosal epithelium, and fetal cells are particularly sensitive to methotrexate effects.
