Antifungal agent, a triazole derivative. Its mode of action is inhibition of cytochrome P450–dependent 14α-lanosterol demethylation, which is a vital step in ergosterol biosynthesis by fungi. Voriconazole has a broad spectrum in vitro anti-fungal activity and is active against Candida spp. (including fluconazole-resistant Candida krusei strains and resistant Candida glabrata and Candida albicans strains), possesses fungicidal activity against Aspergillus spp. and other pathogens that have become clinically relevant, including Scedosporium and Fusarium with limited susceptibility to antifungal drugs.
