The active substance of the drug is estriol, a synthetic analog of the natural female hormone estriol. It replenishes estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women and alleviates symptoms of postmenopause. The most effective use of estriol for the treatment of disorders of the urinary and genital tract (eg, atrophic vaginitis). In atrophy of the mucous membrane of the lower urinary and genital tract estriol induces normalization of the epithelium of the vagina, cervix and urethra, thus contributing to the restoration of normal microflora and pH of the vagina. As a result, the resistance of the epithelium of the urinary and genital tract to infection and inflammation increases; it reduces mucosal dryness and itching in the vagina, soreness during intercourse, the likelihood of vaginal and urinary tract infections; therapy with estriol contributes to the normalization of urination and prevents urinary incontinence.

Unlike other estrogens, estriol has a short period of action (it is retained in the nuclei of endometrial cells for a short period of time). It is assumed that a single daily dose does not cause endometrial proliferation. Therefore, no cyclic administration of progestogen is required and no "withdrawal" bleeding occurs.
