One of the speakers at the event was Vikram Punia, President of Pharmasyntez Group. He took part in the plenary session of the forum where he shared his views on the current situation in the pharmaceutical industry.
Vikram Punia spoke about the industry results since the adoption of the Pharma 2020 program by virtue of which significant results in import substitution have already been achieved: new facilities are being built and new medicines are being invented today within the framework of the program. All efforts now will be focused on the solution of new tasks set by the Pharma 2030 program, under which the industry development will go along three lines: proprietary design of drug products and substances, export capacity-building activities, and the development of biocellular products manufacturing.
Speakers of the forum have also discussed fostering innovations. President of Pharmasyntez Group noted that Russian pharmaceutical companies need to engage into developing modern, innovative drugs. He emphasized that it is within the capacity of Russian scientists to develop a new molecule.
Pharmasyntez is actively implementing the state import substitution program. The company is preparing to launch several large projects in the near future. For example, the construction of a plant for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients is being completed in Bratsk. The facility will provide for the entire production cycle of the drug products manufactured by the company. A research and production complex for the development and production of antineoplastic and biotechnological agents is being built in St. Petersburg. Construction of Pharmasyntez-Chemi pharmaceutical industrial and technology park where active pharmaceutical ingredients for finished products will be manufactured will start soon in Usolye-Sibirskoye.
Russian pharmaceutical forum is the largest international event where leaders of the pharmaceutical industry devise a strategy of behavior in the industry for the coming year and discuss the most important issues. In 2018 the main topic discussed at the forum was the development of drug product manufacturing in Russia – the implementation of the import substitution program in the pharmaceutical industry.
