THE GOVERNMENT OF THE IRKUTSK REGION IS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPMENT OF PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
A working meeting was initiated by Denis Manturov with Sergei Levchenko, the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, and Vikram Punia, President of JSC Pharmasyntez, among participants.
On February 2, the meeting took place between Denis Manturov, the Minister of Trade and Industry of the Russian Federation, and Sergei Levchenko, the Governor of the Irkutsk Region. They discussed the region`s development issues, as well as pharmaceutical industry ones. Vikram Singh Punia, President of JSC Pharmasyntez, also contributed to the discussion.
The Irkutsk Region is one of the most promising with regard to development of full cycle pharmaceutical production.
Currently, there are 9 pharmaceutical enterprises in the region that manufacture vital and most important drugs, as well as synthesize active ingredients.
September last, a new small-tonnage department was opened by the company in Irkutsk. This is a modern, Hi-Tech production of small lots of drugs for clinical trials which helps to pilot technology for releasing new registered drugs.
A number of projects for construction of facilities for the production of pharmaceutical substances is planned to be implemented in the Irkutsk Region in the future. Some of the projects would be financed by the Region.
“We are interested in development of pharmaceutical industry on the territory of the Irkutsk Region.  It helps, namely, to create new Hi-Tech jobs. A number of projects for construction of facilities for the production of pharmaceutical substances is planned to be implemented in the Irkutsk Region”, noted Sergei Levchenko.
The JSC Pharmasyntez project to be implemented on the territory of the Priority Social and Economic Development Area (PSEDA) in Usolye-Sibirskoye is the largest one. In September 2017, a subsidiary company of JSC Pharmasyntez was established in order to implement this project. Up to one thousand tons of substances per year could be produced by the plant in Usolye-Sibirskoye, and about 2 thousand people would be employed. An area of approximately 130 ha would be required for the plant.
A regional government task force has been established to facilitate this project. At this moment, the enterprise is preparing documents to be applied for the resident status of the PSEDA Usolye-Sibirskoye.
“At the level of the Subject, we will do our best to develop new modern Hi-Tech pharmaceutical facilities. This industry contributes to people’s health. That is inestimable”, Sergei Levchenko said.
